Leonard “Lenny” Boniface is a musician – singer, songwriter, and drummer – and a humanitarian, public speaker, journalist, manager (Management), event and trip organizer, and employee working in the human services field. Leonard was born and raised in Tanzania, East Africa, and now lives and works in Whitehorse, Yukon. He has travelled extensively and is a former member of the Oxfam International Youth Parliament (OIYP), founder and president of Teenage Life & Young Adults International Society (TELIYA International), co-founder of the Yukon African Caribbean Association, co-chairman of the Yukon Labor Market Framework and director of Accent Access Inc., a firm specializing in cultural events, consulting and travel. Leonard is also a dedicated father to his son, Hisani, whose unique name means “charity” or “good cause” in Swahili.

Leonard has inspired hundreds of people around the world through his multiple talents as a professional journalist, manager, musician, activist, and humanitarian. MTV once wrote on their website that they didn’t have enough space to write all about Leonard Boniface, when Leonard, as a co-producer and actor, produced a short MTV film called Legend, training with and supervised by amazing celebrities including Mya, Nelly Furtado, Richard Gere, Justin Timberlake, and others. Leonard and others were awarded a medal for that amazing MTV 48 film project.

 

Leonard’s first music album was “Wakijijini”, released in 2013. He dedicated it to helping people in need and with the proceeds managed to start and fund a mobile public library in Tanzania, which opened in 2013. Leonard has visited more than 100 cities and communities around the world, including Casablanca Morocco at World Youth Congress, Sydney, Australia, where he met and worked with Oxfam personnel, OIYP Action Partners, and New York City, where he spent time at the United Nations headquarters.

 

In May 2017 Leonard launched his second music album, “Life Is a Celebration”, which is available on iTunes, Amazon, eMusic.

Leonard has performed at various local and international events such as Make Poverty History in Karlsruhe, Germany; Community to Community, on Salt Spring Island; the Sustainability Conference, in Melbourne, Australia; and the Adaka Festival in Yukon, to name just a few. He has sung and spoken at many gatherings, including the Oxfam International Youth Parliament meeting in Sydney, Australia.

Leonard has been interviewed by local and international media including CBC, ABC, BBC, MTV, ITV, UN Radio, SBS, Global News, and many more.
